When did you get called “ma’am” for the first time and how did you react?

  1. I’ve been called ma’am my whole life and I call women of all ages ma’am. Nothing to react to.

  2. I was a teenager, 16? Didn’t care for it and I’m sure my face said it. Didn’t correct the person because I just wanted my deli order.

  3. i think of it as more of a respect thing it’s really not that serious to me. if someone is trying to grab my attention they might say “miss , ma’am etc”

  4. I got called ma’am one month back….and he is visibly older than me…but still called me ma’am while asking a newspaper from me…i gave him the newspaper…but i thought about it after 5 minutes…is it weird?

Ps:i was not reading the newspaper…we are in a park…that paper is used to sit on

  5. The first time I went to America, by the TSA agent. I just assumed it was an America thing.

  6. This reminds me of a story, first off , im a male in my forties and i was working with a coworker who was the same age who is a female, she was a new employee trainer who help all new workers , one day she was introduced to an new employee that was 18 /m , and he was being very respectful, mind you. , but after every single thing she asked him to , he was like “Yes Ma’Ma”!.. it was so funny,,,the boy was so young,,,she was like not happy,,i told the kid that she was my grandma,, and he believed me..im laughing so hard typing this

  7. It’s normal in Texas. We call ma’am and sir as young as a kid. It’s a respect thing. Not that deep.

  8. A few weeks back.
Was addressed as Ma’am by someone speaking English wanting to do a German course at my workplace.
It was kinda funny, because that’s definitely nothing used around here usually, so it was a bit weird, funny and at the same time something very polite by that person.

  9. I got called as one few days ago while wearing a mask, I was a little surprised mentally but I’m already at that age anyway lol.

  10. Arriving in the USA. Immigration agent said “please step out of the vehicle, ma’am”, but I’d never encountered anyone anywhere using that term, and I heard “please step out of the vehicle, man” and I thought he was just trying a bit too hard to be cool and relatable 😂
