Part of me doesn’t want to just sit at home and mope about. But at the same time I feel like going out alone on Valentine’s Day either makes me look pathetic and there-for unapproachable, or desperate to find someone and again, unapproachable.

  2. Why not attend a singles event? There’s plenty on Meetups, I just went to one yesterday and it was a lot of fun

You don’t realize it yet, but your situation is actually nice from the standpoint that some partners might care about Valentine’s and hope for the traditional night out that costs the equivalent of multiple dates on any other day. Luckily my current and passed girlfriends saw the holiday as a waste of money
