I went to a party yesterday and I couldn’t talk to anyone unless they talked to me first

Basically the title. Luckily someone talked to me first, otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to talk at all. When I see a group of people who are friends already I don’t know what to do, or what to say to approach them.
