I’ve started in my new role recently but always find it difficult to connect with the team. I felt like people already in their set group and often hard to get to know them on a deeper level. I am a bit of an introvert , not a massive fan of socialising normally but I have been trying to make an effort . Where should I start ?

  1. I am the same. I usually start by asking something about the work and ask for recommendations for lunch or an after work activity. Got struck down thrice but one of them was heading to a pub nearby after work and invited me 🙂 so that got things started!

  2. The whole world is “set in their group.” So don’t let that be a barrier.

Start by making eye contact and lighting up a big smile. Greet people by name when you first see them that day with an energetic greeting. Ask them how things are going. Strike up a small conversation on break and be interested in the person. Remember what they told you and ask about it later. (if it seems to be something worth following up on) Share a bit about yourself.

What have you tried, and what do you feel hasn’t worked so far?
