I (18f) have been dating my boyfriend (20m) for over 2 years. We’ve run into problems like him not complimenting me and me not wanting kids at all and him not being sure about it yet. These have ultimately created a pause in our relationship and I know a break up is coming as we have talking about it and he even got advice from his mom and coworkers yesterday. We are in a ldr so I am seeing him and likely giving back his stuff the 24th of this month. I have never gotten broken up with before and have been with him since I was 15 and would like advice. He said if we do he wants to stay friends but I know that’s not possible or healthy.

Tldr: probably going through a breakup soon and need advice on how to cope.

  1. Typically everything changes after the actual conversation. So many people suddenly become enemies or start badmouthing their ex, so be prepared for anything. You’re mentally and physically in different places, so yeah, a clean break makes the most sense. Be honest, short and clean, but as kind as you can under the circumstances. Then just let it end. Maybe you could actually be friends later, but in the short term it just makes everything messy. And since you are in a ldr the difference between a friendship and relationship would be minimal. Make a clean break, then assess your own feeling after you establish a new normal. You’ll probably find it’s best to just let it go. It sounds like you’re only holding on because it’s been so long and you’re afraid of letting go. That’s not a good reason to continue a relationship.
