Hi – i’m going to meet a friend i went to secondary school with in about half 45 minutes and i’m completely panicking! this will be one of the first times that i’m going out (except for work) since i left college about a year ago because of my anxiety. any tips to help relax and avoid awkwardness (convo topics or anything) really appreciated! wish me luck ^~^

  1. This might not work for you, but I like honesty. When you meet with them I’d just say ‘damn it’s. Good to see you after so long, and I’m feeling a little nervous, so don’t mind me acting weird for a few minutes I’ll be normal soon!’ and that usually causes a laugh and the tension dies down. Ymmv.

  2. I mean for me I just kind of turn of my mind, try not to think and just let things flow, that might not be helpful though, or if there isn’t anything to talk about I just start making up random things, like being annoyed about fwp and seeing if they relate, it’s mainly just trial and error I think. But also I just try to be myself, be polite, and try to take interest in the other person, just general topics, for deep stuff I usually try to wait til trust is built or just share something vulnerable and always ask if they’re comfortable sharing. To me conversation is like dancing and just moving to the tempo, there’s no rules.
