I’m an immigrant living with my English partner in Lancashire. Some TV people from my home country reached out to me, asking if I’d like to be featured in a lighthearted piece about everyday life in England. I said sure, so they are coming to my home in two weeks.

They asked me to think of some activities to make it more engaging. The thing is, I don’t actually have that much going on at home. No kids, no pets. All of my fun stuff I do elsewhere. But at home, we mostly work, cook, watch Netflix, play console games, and sleep.

Soooo what activities make for good afternoon TV?

  1. I guess it doesn’t have to be things you regularly do, just things you could do as a one-off for the cameras. What is there about life here that amused or confused you when you got here? I’m guessing it’s those kind of things that will make for good television in your own country. Given that it’s probably never going to be seen here, you have free reign to poke fun at us, too.

There must be things in our food and drink culture, our hobbies, our manner, our customs. It’s difficult to suggest things because it’ll depend where you come from.

  2. Time to raise tea making to an art form and sacred ceremony, also the arrangement and presentation of the biscuits is important.

  3. Attempt one of this ‘if you can eat this gutbuster you don’t pay for it’ english breakfasts. Make sure to do it at teatime for maximum confusion.

  4. Falconry– indoors, because your first 3 birds never bothered to come back when you tried it outside.

  5. Afternoon tea (vee)?

Make some cucumber sandwiches and go on about Yorkshire tea. Tell them you do it every day at 4pm.
