So I got in an accident last year in my first car and the bumpers and the grille were damaged and I took the insurance payout and sent the car to auction (copart). I pretty much forgot about it for a bit until I checked the Vehicle Smart app I use today, where I put in the registration number and it tells you if its taxed, MOT’d and lots of different info and noticed that it’s been taxed and insured earlier this month and that just made me curious about who bought it and what it looks like now, what sort of repairs they’ve done, how much they drive it and if its being looked after, as when I had it I gave it a wash every few weeks and kept the inside clean.

I know I won’t be able to find out unless I happen to come across it or pass it while out driving but it still makes me think.

  1. I had a smart car, which I part exchanged a few years back. I managed to see it a few years later in the town where I used to visit frequently. This was a while ago and I do sometimes wonder if it’s still going.

I also had a beautiful red Mk5 Golf which was written off a while back. I sold it to a junk yard and only a few months before the accident it had a new timing belt so the engine was in top order, low mileage etc…I do wonder if it’s in someone else’s car somewhere, or any of its parts for that matter. I miss that car.

  2. Yeah, I often wonder what happened to my old cars. Whether they’re being used and if they’re doing ok. My Dad had an MG Midget decades ago that’s apparently still taxed, and he’d love to know how it’s doing now.

  3. I looked up my old cars recently to see if they were still running.

All were bar my first, apparently been written off which is sad (not by me!). It was a great first car, albeit was a rattling piece of shit by the end of my time with it.

  4. I had a look and I’m quite pissed off to find my 2020 write off is currently on the road. I’ve had to buy two cars since then and I adored that one. I had it from new until someone in a 4×4 reversed into it twice. If I had known it could be road worthy I wouldn’t have taken the shitty pay out.

  5. Sold my focus ST to a local guy when I needed a bigger car with more doors due to having a baby. Still see it round every now and then, miss how well it drove and the fun of actually ‘driving’ it compared to my current car.
