Hi all. Being the very grown up person I am, I’ve been getting some bath toys to go alongside listening to music and relaxing in the bath. So far I’ve gotten a squirting octopus thing, some boats and obviously some ducks. There’s only one thing missing though, a good amount of bubbles. I’ve tried a few bubble baths before but unfortunately, I don’t get the level of bubbliness that I want. I would like to completely cover my beard and face with bubbles and pretend that the octopus is getting attacked by a bubble monster.

Any recommendations? Cheers.

  1. You need one of those bubble jets that you can put in the bath to make a huge amount of bubbles. If you can’t, then use the fast pace of the running tap to churn up the water and make more bubbles.

Use any bubble bath, but use a lot and pour it initially into the running bath under the tap. For this reason, get a cheap one, so it won’t cost loads to use loads.
Topping up the water and swishing the water round will also make more bubbles.

Do not add soap to the water. It kills all bubbles.

  2. Just make sure you get a Cadbury’s Flake or two so you can recreate the classic advert.

I’ve never liked the idea of chocolate that *has* been tasted before.

  3. Radox seems pretty good. Picked up some Imperial Leather recently that’s poor for bubbles, and knock off radox at the Co-Op is very poor

  4. Bubble bars from Lush, creamy candy of fluffy white clouds were always good, but I’ve not been in lush for a while they may have discontinued these by now for other flavours.

  5. I do have to say Badedas for best bubbles if I’m being honest but I have eczema and it irritates the hell out of my skin. It’s highly rated on Amazon and regularly goes on sale.

Edit: it’s currently £10 and I bought it for £6.63 in November 2021, a little goes a long way with this if you’re worried about price. The smell is pretty naff, sort of generic original fairy liquid but the bubbles can’t be beat

  6. Lush sell bubblebars that are meant to last 2 or 3 baths. Use a whole one for one bath, it’s epic!

  7. Matey or any of the kid’s one will be fairly bubbly.

My friend got some Avon bubble bath and said it was so bubbly she needed to take a Pasteur pipette home from the lab because pouring the bubble bath in ended up covering the bathroom.

  8. Any bubble bath works well in my experience. I like the Lacura sanctuary rip off stuff from Aldi, can’t go far wrong with Radox either.

The trick is to use the shower head to fill the bath, it makes for a really bubbly bath. Keep an eye on it though, I nearly caused a bubble avalanche in my bathroom once.

  9. Radox or any cheap own-brand bubble bath (not Dove, they’re shit for bubbles), and start off the bath with cold water on full and put the bubble bath in straight away – the cold tap comes out stronger so creates more air circulation – then switch to hot as soon as the bottom of the bath is covered. Fucktons of bubbles.

  10. Lush bubble bars are very bubbly.

Alternatively most bubble baths work, I find put it in right at the start directly under the tap for maximum bubbliness

  11. I’ve got a foam sprayer attachment for my pressure washer. I could come round and hose you down if you like?

  12. For future bath toys, would highly recommend a mini bath basketball hoop (top tip – do not combine with candles).

In terms of bubbles, it’s a real balance. I think for maximum bubble avoid bath oil, but then bath oil tends to be quite nice for the skin. I really like the Neal’s Yard stuff, it’s a nice mix of bubble, pleasant smell and doesn’t dry your skin out too much.

  13. It’s less the stuff you use, but how you use it. Initially, you want lots of turbulence to mix the bubble bath into the bath water. But, as bubbles start forming and covering the surface, you want slightly less agitation, since the more you agitate, the more they will coalesce and become larger–but more fragile, and then popping.

Once you’ve done a good hand-mix combined with high-flow water to start, once you get a solid covering, just let the high-flow water make the bubbles. I find that gives the most satisfying bubble volume.

    Also, we use Matey.
