Brit here.

I always imagined from watching various sitcoms and other US shows that ‘girl scout cookies’ were hand made by the scouts (or family) and then sold to raise funds for charity or possibly the scouts groups.

But from reading another post I get the impression that ‘Girl scout cookies’ may just be a brand name of a Biscuit ( to use the correct name 🙂 jk ) brand ?

So what exactly is a ‘girl scout cookie’ ?

  1. It’s a brand that only the Girl Scouts sell at a certain time of year. It’s a fundraising activity for the organization.

  2. Two different brands make girl scout cookies, but they make the same flavors. Sometimes the flavors are different names depending on which brand, though. Which brand you get depends on where you are geographically (I think).

Girl scouts (and their families) will take orders and you tell them how many of each flavor you want. Sometimes they have a supply of cookies and will post up at a Walmart or something and sell them that way. I think they used to go door to door, but I’m not old enough to have seen that if they did.
