Is it better (from an atmosphere point of view) to go on Saturday or Sunday?
I am going to book 3 months in advance – do they often change dates? (Only going for a long weekend)
Is the MLB ticket site the cheapest legit site?
Anything particular to look out for?

  1. Either day is fine. You may want to check the Yankees’ official website to see if any gameday promotions are going on.

Game dates do not change unless there’s a cancellation due to weather.

MLB.com is the best legit place to get tickets, 3rd party sites can be sketchy/fake.

/r/NYYankees is worth a visit, there’s a Wiki and other help for visitors.

  2. Either day is fine for atmosphere.

Game won’t change unless there is a weather delay, which is impossible to know this far in advance.

  3. I don’t think there’s enough of a difference between Saturday and Sunday games to matter. They should both be day games, which I think is the best atmosphere for baseball.

Baseball games only rarely change dates, and even then usually only due to rain. But you can barely predict that a few days out, let alone months out.

MLB.com is easiest way to get tickets, sold at face value (with some fees added). Yes, possibly you can get cheaper tickets elsewhere, but if you just want to be sure about your tickets months in advance that’s the way to go.

You will want to think about where in the stadium to sit. To me the best deal is upper deck, behind home plate. You are not close to the field, but you can see everything easily. But if you have more money to burn, you can be lower deck somewhere around the infield and be closer to the action. Some other people like being in the outfield bleacher seats, where they might catch a home run ball, but will have a harder time seeing the game.

  4. Without looking at the schedule, I think a majority of Saturday games are evening games and almost all Sunday games (except Sunday Night Baseball) are in the afternoon. Yankees being one of the bigger TV draws get selected for Sunday Night games more often than teams like the Royals. Not sure if that figures into your decision much or not.

  5. FYI Sunday game times can be uncertain. At some point it will be decided if the Yankees will be the Sunday night ESPN game. If they are the game will be at 8:05 pm.

  6. You’d better be going specifically to boo them

Go to whichever game is a day game. If they’re both day games it shouldn’t matter.

  7. I have nothing of worth to add here, but as a former Boston native I’m required by law to say this anytime someone brings up New York baseball teams: Yankees suck! 😛

  8. Either day is fine.

They won’t change dates unless there’s a rainout, in which case you’ll be able to go to a doubleheader on one of the other days you’re there.

  9. MLB Site is fine, but I’ve been able to get very cheap baseball tickets through GameTime for second-hand tickets. They’ll be transferred to your MLB app, so you’ll need that as well. I would look at StubHub as well.

  10. I’ve gone to a bunch of games there. The only thing I can add is make sure you bring a light jacket or something, it can get COLD, even in the daytime, depending where you sit.

Also, the garlic fries are legit.

  11. I will add that StubHub, Game time, Seat Geek are much better places to get tickets. Wait 1-2 days before the game a tickets will drop and be cheaper than MLB.con

  12. Different perspective: go see the Mets at Citi Field if they have home games that line up with your visit. Better sight lines, better food, cheaper tickets.
