My partner and I recently dabbled in some fantasy play. He dated a cheerleader in high school and has always said he found cheerleaders attractive. (I was also a cheerleader for a brief time in high school) Anyway, I know this girlfriend of his was very important to him at the time and unfortunately I’m not sure if he ever really “got over” that relationship. He has name slipped me for this girl before.

Now knowing that, I recently procured a fun cheerleader Halloween type costume to see if I could spice things up a bit. He is kind of a “traditional” person when it comes to sex. But when I put that costume on he turned into a completely different man! He couldn’t contain himself. It’s like I unlocked some sort of part of him I’d never seen before. I’m excited because it was so much fun, but also a bit worried that I just opened a can of worms in fulfilling his (potential) actual fantasy: his ex-girlfriend.

Am I overthinking this?

  1. You’re over thinking it. Fantasies and fetishes are the result of our life experiences. Our brains are still wiring in high school, and sure his relationship with a cheerleader might have led to his attraction to the idea how, but he’s with you, in the present moment he is with you. Indulge these easy fantasies, and he will be delighted with how sexy you are.

  2. It’s possible he dated his ex-girlfriend because he had a thing for cheerleaders and she was one. I wouldn’t necessarily assume that this sexual interest reflects a continued interest in his ex.

  3. Someone pining for their ex would be doing so in many others ways besides being turned on by you rocking cheerleader gear. I think you’re overthinking this one.
