Aberdeen is very much on the fall. It’s the centre of our oil & gas industry so with the industry in decline it means Aberdeen is in decline. People are struggling to sell their houses, even with prices dropping (the complete opposite of the majority of the country).
The only somewhat major city that’s actually grown over the past decade is Čakovec, in the far north of the country. It only has about 15 000 people, making it approximately the 23rd largest city in Croatia.
The other cities that are… growing to begin with are either small tourist towns on the coast or suburban towns right next to major cities, that is Zagreb (Dugo Selo, Stupnik and Sveta Nedelja being the surrounding municipalities that have grown), Split (Solin and Podstrana), Rijeka (Viškovo and Kostrena) and Zadar (Sukošan, Zemunik Donji and Poličnik). The fourth largest city, Osijek, in the east of the country, doesn’t even have the luxury of having a single small town anywhere near it that’s grown. In fact every single municipality in Slavonia, or eastern Croatia, has lost people.
Out of the major cities that are doing especially bad, that would be Rijeka, the third largest city, which has lost 15% of its population, which is significantly worse than any city near its size.
[Here’s a map of all municipalities](https://preview.redd.it/imq5x27z1qb81.png?width=2048&format=png&auto=webp&s=eee67f8fca20630f4a2f20fbd40506b8aa6a3ec1) and the population change between 2011 and 2021. Overall the regions that are doing the worst are simply eastern and central Croatia, as well as inland Dalmatia, while the north and the coast are doing… not horribly.
