Hello all,

My company closed their entity in Czech Republic and they offered me relocation to UK. I am full remote employee therefore all I need is internet connection and to be in the country – anywhere. Salary around 80k annual.

Where would you recommend me to go if you know that:

* I do not want to be in London or any 500k+ city
* I have a dog who loves running outside so i prefer a small house / cabin with a garden (no urban area)
* I love playing music so I would love to join a band
* I love playing volleyball or tennis or badminton or any sport
* I do not want to drive on left side so good public transport to get to my hobbies above
* I want it to be safe (I am white but still I hate meeting rasists , mean, negative people – I know I can meet them everywhere but it’s about % and generally the atmosphere)

It can be literally anywhere in UK.

Thank you in advance for sharing your recommendation based on your own experience

You will have to rethink this one if you don’t want to be in an urban area

  3. If you mean an Intra-Company Transfer visa they are temporary, cannot be renewed and don’t lead to citizenship they are for a handful of senior management positions to set up a branch of the company abroad and then leave. 99.9% of landlords don’t allow pets make sure it isn’t a banned breed. You can’t not be urban, have a garden, have a landlord that allows pets and live somewhere where you can live without a car that also has lots of social events.

  4. Most of the things you want do not go hand in hand with a rural area.

You want a sport club nearby, a band you can join, and good public transport. To find those you’re gonna need to be in a decent suburb.

I personally would recommend somewhere around of Leeds with a train station. Such as Otley, Ilkley, Harrogate, Knaresborough. Rural enough that you’re about 10 mins from the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, but equally easy access to major cities.

  5. Lake District or Peak District.

The whole public transport thing isn’t really feasible if you don’t want to live in an urban area.

  6. Double check what the broadband connection is like if you are going to be working from home. Some rural areas have significantly better broadband than urban areas.

Try Wales – property is relatively inexpensive, public transport is OK and the people are lovely.

  7. The driving on the left shouldn’t be something you should avoid. If you’re already a competent driver you’ll get used to driving on the other side within an hour.

  8. Montrose. Train to Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen or Inverness in less than 2 hours and all have international airports. Is in rural angus and has great facilities. You’ll get a cracker of a house for a decent price too.

  9. If you are fully remote is there no possibility you can just stay in the Czech Republic? Seems rather illogical of your company to say you have to be in the uk.

  10. Smaller cathedral cities (e.g. York) are the best bet for a mix of facilities, being easily walkable/bikeable, and with easy access to nature, since we don’t tend to have suburban sprawl. Three miles in any direction from York and you’re surrounded by fields. But you’d be pushed to get anywhere with a decent garden on 80k in those kinds of places. Gardens here are for the wealthy, or in the suburbs, where cars are really needed and they’re still usually the size of postage stamps.

But yeah, echoing what others have said about driving. It’s very quick to make the mental switch to drive on the opposite side. If you wanted to be cautious, you could get a bike first and cycle around for a few weeks getting your brain adjusted to roundabouts etc, and then driving would be no issue, and will significantly open up your life. You’re going to be mostly stuck in one place otherwise, so no interesting country walks with the dog or changes of scenery.

  11. I assume you may be Czech – you may want to consider the south of UK because the weather may be more palatable. Also the link to the continent is somehow easier – airports, Eurostar.
Salary around 80k sounds good in theory but you will pay more tax than in Czech republic.
I would possibly consider Kent. Also Brighton-Eastborne-Hastings direction.

  12. The north is very affordable and dog-friendly. Lots of towns where you can be in countryside within ten minutes walk

  13. Small towns or large village should guarantee decent internet and hopefully some nice countryside. Personally I’m a fan of Yorkshire, lots of beautiful countryside, nice people, and good local food

  14. The Scottish Highlands might be an idea. It’s rural but depending on where you live you can still be close to a city, the cost of living is pretty low, people are friendly, the views are spectacular, loads of music and sport opportunities in many local areas.
