Hi. I’m a RN at a level one trauma hospital in Chicago. I work in the Trauma ICU. I know it might seem “high speed”, but I feel embarrassed to tell people my job. It just didn’t seem badass like a Navy SEAL etc. I want people to be wowed at my job, but maybe I shouldn’t care as much

  1. I dont work a job to impress anyone. You can preface conversations about your job with, “its not impressive, but …”

  2. I am in awe of those who work in trauma centers, It takes a special person to handle the things you see and do very few of us could do it. You doing your job is impressive and important to us all.

  3. You have a hard and impressive job. And I say this as someone who knows people who work in hospitals including in the ICU and ER. The only people who wouldn’t be impressed probably have very little understanding of what your job entails or what goes on in hospitals.

Previously I worked as an engineer, which tended to impress people as a title, but whenever I actually tried to talk about my job to non engineers their eyes would usually glaze over.

  4. No matter how far you go in life there will always be someone above you. You should not be embarrassed at all, where I’m from being an RN is borderline prestigious. You would definitely be considered to be highly successful even if you spent the rest of your life doing just that. Granted, I live in a poor rural area where most people get by on jobs in the service industry or warehousing.
