Hi everyone, i’ll be moving to UK in May and im clueless on where to live. My office will be in London (canary wharf) but on a hybrid mode so dont have to go more than twice a week to work. I’m in my 30’s and single and would like to live somewhere a little lively, safe and close to stores and restaurants. My budget is around 850 pounds. I’m open to flat share as well Please suggest a few locations

  2. £850 a month I’m afraid probably won’t get you much in London, especially if that budget includes bills. Gas and electricity prices are insane right now. You’re probably looking at a house or flat share somewhere further out towards the east/south east counties outside of London eg Essex, Kent

  3. 850 isn’t a huge budget in London. You possibly could live in Canary Wharf, it’s not that expensive and you could pay more in rent due to no travel costs. Personally, I wouldn’t, because I find it soulless and it’s dead at the weekend, but if you don’t want to commute it might be worth it for you.

Otherwise, perhaps look at somewhere like Bermondsey. Good tube connection, and an up and coming area. Lots to do in terms of bars and restaurants, but not as expensive as surrounding areas yet. You still may struggle to find somewhere on that budget, but it’s worth a look.

You could also live in Stratford. It’s cheaper because it’s even further out than Canary Wharf, and also because it has a reputation for being rough. That reputation is a bit out of date now, as its been gradually gentrified since hosting the Olympics. Lots of new high rises for young professionals and a big Westfield, plus the Olympic Park is nice for strolling around. It also has Hackney Wick next door, which is a very trendy area (think warehouse living and canal side craft beer bars).

  4. That budget is definitely tight, even for a flat share. You certainly won’t get a one bed flat for that anywhere close to Canary Wharf and further out you’ll have higher commuting costs. My DS works in Canary Wharf and pays nearly double that for a one bed flat in North Greenwich. [Spareroom.com](https://Spareroom.com) is your friend. The issue may be that if you are working from home part of the time, you will need a room with space for a desk and this isn’t always the case on a tight budget. Be aware that if the market is anything like it was in September when my DS was flat hunting, the market is moving crazy fast and there is a shortage of good lets. You need to be on the spot and prepared to view at short notice. It’s a bit of a nightmare frankly.

Anywhere on the Jubilee or the Elizabeth lines is easily accessible to Canary Wharf. Stratford is worth a look, also Bow or or go further east into Docklands or Woolwich.
