I understand that because of your inexperience you might feel uncomfortable talking about things like this, but hey, you’re already touching each other’s private parts! Communication is essential in pleasure, even if some things are universal, everyone is different in what they like and how they like it. Fingering alone isn’t enough for most women to reach orgasm, the clit is where it’s at.
