Hello! Title says it all, really.

I have been getting the ads for Esther Perel’s course on rekindling desire and I do have to say it might sound like something for me. I feel shame around my sexuality and have difficulty with being creative – both things this course can help mediate according to Perel’s claims. However, before I fall into the marketing trap I was wondering if anyone here has some stories to share about this course.

  1. Perel has many lectures on YouTube, and her TED Talk on “Rethinking infidelity” is a highly polished performance. She is absolutely a genius. She’s not only insightful about the psychology of relationships, she does sociology too, explaining the challenges of dating and coupling in our time by tracing in Western societies over the past century, even two. She’s also witty and clever (e.g., one of her books is called Mating in captivity, where “captivity” is a monogamous relationship).

I know nothing about this course, but what the Horse Whisperer is to horses and Cesar Millan is to dog obedience training, Esther Perel is to romance and relationships.

Also look up anthropologist Helen Fisher on YouTube, whose life work is studying promiscuity.

  2. I can tell you that if it’s anything even close to her Mating in Captivity book, it will be spot on.

  3. Esther Perel is more targeted toward modern women whom have usually had a satisfying sex life in the past but are now married.

A better book would be “Come as You are” by Emily Nagoski. This book is more aimed at younger women not yet completely sexually active.
