So just yesterday, a good friend of mine told me that he had a brother that has unfortunately passed away (probably a long time ago). But the way he told me was like it was just a passing news. It just so happened that we had a conversation about siblings and the news just dropped. The way he said it was like “And oh by the way, I have a dead brother”.
My reaction to that is just an agape face for like 3 seconds of (kinda) awkward silence, and then just we continued the conversation like nothing happened.
It’s a nice feeling to see your friend trust you well enough to tell you such a personal thing. But I feel my reaction was inappropriate. Though appropriate at the same time, seeing that he doesn’t really wanna elaborate on this.
What do you think I should’ve done? What would you have done in my situation?
