As title says it all, I (F 27) experience vaginal dryness midway through sex with my partner (M) of 2 years. Everything starts awesome, no pain. But sometime during sex I get dry dry dry and it becomes hard for him to insert himself again as if my entrance has shrunk so we use lube but after some minutes, I become outrageously dry again and start feeling a friction burn like a mad rug burn especially when he goes in and out with his tip only.

I am aroused the whole time, no issue there. I have been on the mirena iud for 2 years and I just began to feel this. Any idea what it may be or if this has happened to anyone before and was able to fix it?

  1. What type of lube are you using? I would suggest a silicone based lube. They last a very long time. Water based lubes dry out pretty quick

  2. Lots of external things can effect it that may not be you. My ex and I used a box fan on summer afternoons and realized it was drying us out.

  3. Taking Ginkgo can help with this apparently. Takes like couple months of taking it.

Also though, lube is your friend. I also require super jellatinous lube to be happy. I recommend silicone based lube. I’ve had a great experience with pjur silicone lube. It’s worth the money.

  4. Me and wife reapply water based lube every 5-10 minutes. Silicone stains, is a pain to wash, and ruins silicone toys, which is why we avoid it, even if it feels nice.

  5. Consider whether you are dehydrated. Your body mat absorb moisture from the lube.

  6. Vaginal dryness is a problem I had while on Mirena. Please pay attention to whatever advice you get , especially from your GYN. My problem dragged on for years…my vulva and perineum skin turned out to be thinning so sex hurt…but my doctor was really not paying attention to my complaints. I am now seeing a vulva specialist- Women should start seeing one in their 20s .
