  1. So we’re currently going through the process of getting the basement clesned up after another flood. What are some ways i can keep a washer, dryer and other large objects up off the floor when this shit happens?

  2. My parents have an occasional water problem in their basement, my father countered it by getting a bunch of those Rubbermaid plastic shelving units, and leaving the bottom shelf empty.

  3. I have a wall of those u-shaped bars that hold adjustable height arm brackets that hold variable size shelves. Its a Home Depot thing. If you have cinderblocks you’ll need a hammer drill and you’ll need a laser to line them up. Just don’t put up shelves below 6 inches. Note this is the utilitarian side of the basement not fancy finished area. Just holding tools and boxes and similar stuff.

On one hand, its permanent, unlike cheap shelves, and its cheaper than freestanding bookcase shelves. On the other hand each bracket is like $5 so it adds up. On the third hand you don’t have to purchase and install all of this in one day.

You may as well save time and plan on installing track lights with lights pointing more or less at the shelves right now, if you’re going to end up doing this sooner or later may as well start planning for it now.

I suppose it depends if you use your basement more like a shop or more like a storage yard.
