So the World Baseball Classic started a few days ago.

What do Americans think of the World Baseball Classic?

  1. Not a very popular event. I think it gets some coverage on the main sports networks but I would consider myself a pretty big sports fan and I couldn’t name anybody playing for the USA team or tell you how the USA team is doing.

I saw a highlight on twitter with Shohei Ohtani so I see he is competing in it which is cool, but I don’t think there are many serious baseball fans in the USA and Ohtani isn’t really a household name.

  2. Personally more baseball is always good, I’ve already got my weekend planned around watching the games! As for most of everyone else, they probably don’t even know it exist.

  3. American baseball fans are talking about it but you have to understand that many of our players aren’t participating. None of our best starting pitchers are participating, for example. It’s cool that Trout got involved this year, but it’s more exciting for other countries while we’re focused on spring training and getting our teams ready for the season.

  4. As much as I love baseball, I always forget it exists.

International tournaments just aren’t that popular in the United States. The individual MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL and NCAA basketball/football championships are the big events for American sports fans.

  5. I don’t pay any attention to baseball. Haven’t watched an MLB game since around the time of the McGwire/Sosa HR race.

  6. I’m glad it exists. I can’t bring myself to cheer for the US. Also, with baseball, what does the US have to prove?

  7. Hardcore baseball fans will care about it.

Casual baseball fans (like me) will be aware it exists.

Everybody else won’t know, or won’t care. We’re heading into NHL and NBA playoffs soon, which is what most sports media in the US is covering right now.

  8. I didn’t even know there was a World Baseball Classic. But I don’t follow baseball at all, nor do I watch/browse ESPN since their hockey coverage is abysmal at best so I have no exposure to sports news that I am not directly looking for.

  9. I’ve been watching every game that’s not at a bad hour.

Though I might watch Japan-Korea at 5AM today.

  10. I like it, especially when players from my team are with team USA. Today, my MLB team played Venezuela and lost.

  11. Always say I will watch it each year but always settle for highlights.
Saw that neat catch Noot made for Japan today, can’t wait to have him back locally.

  12. I’m gonna try to watch this year.

It also helps that Mookie Betts is on Team USA.

  13. I’ve personally been loving it, but it seems like a lot of people are barely even aware it exists

  14. I’m not a sports guy so I have no idea what it is. I like to watch dog sports, Sumo, and the Marble League.
