Thanks in advance, very interested by the answers from a British Redditor.

Edit – Thank you everyone. I am watching the film She Said and I thought as an educated guess it might be the NYT.

  1. Probably the Washington Post? That’s the one I was taught in school about the most thanks to the Watergate scandal.

  2. New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Boston Globe.

LA times crossword > NYT crossward.

  3. NYT is widely respected.

“The New York Times had 8.4 million digital-only subscribers as of March 2022, making the publication the global leader in this regard, following by The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post with three million and 2.7 million online news subscribers respectively.
    Feb 1, 2023”

  4. I’d assume probably either the New York Times, the Washington Post, or the Wall Street Journal.

  5. With the rise of thr Internet, the media atmosphere is much more democratized but the big 3 are The New York Times and the Washington Post on the left and the Wall Street Journal on the right.

  6. Wall St Journal (outside the opinion page) is the most neutral and influential in business.

WaPo is influential in the beltway.

NYT certainly has a large readership given its location in NYC, although it is more influential by far in Dem circles. 91% of NYT reader’s identify as Democrats (Pew).

Regional papers outside of NYC are important for their areas. The Boston Globe, LA Times, Chicago Tribune, Dallas Morning News and others all do good journalism and are important in their areas.

  7. Wall Street Journal, USA Today, NYT and WaPo lead in distribution. NYT and WaPo are where you are most likely to find investigative journalism and are typically the ones to break huge stories. They, along with WSJ, also have heavily-read opinion sections and frequently feature pieces written by influential people. USA Today, in contrast, is a fairly generic newspaper with nothing particularly special about it other than the fact that they have national distribution

  8. The New York Times is the most influential and most iconic. Even their crossword and games like Wordle are huge cultural cornerstones.

Besides the NYT, The Washington Post and Wall Street Journal are also well-respected. The latter is a more conservative-leaning newspaper.

  9. The Washington Post or NYT. The Washington Post even has a march written by John Philip Sousa.

  10. Associated Press and Reuters are also responsible for a lot of the news we consume, even if we’re on another platform.
