    Regional papers outside of NYC are important for their areas. The Boston Globe, LA Times, Chicago Tribune, Dallas Morning News and others all do good journalism and are important in their areas.

They, along with WSJ, also have heavily-read opinion sections and frequently feature pieces written by influential people. USA Today, in contrast, is a fairly generic newspaper with nothing particularly special about it other than the fact that they have national distribution

    Besides the NYT, The Washington Post and Wall Street Journal are also well-respected. The latter is a more conservative-leaning newspaper.
