Hello everyone,

I am asking this because I’m kinda lost.

My wife (26) is a currently a Health Visitor, making 33k per year. Her background is in Child Nursing, but she is now looking to change her career completely to something that has better salary prospects later on, and ideally a job role that is fully remote.

Does anyone have any suggestions of what she could go into, or which recruiters she should contact?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

  1. Make sure you talk about your cross skills, not just that it is a different field. You might be able to take a pay decrease, but long term it will be more.

One to look at, as I have worked with a fair few who used to be nurses, look at being a Business Analyst.

  2. Completely depends on intelligence, interests and ability to train (financial/time availability) as well as the area you live in (jobs available locally). I’m a big believer in saying the first thing that comes to mind – you subconsciously might already know the answer. As for ideas, as someone else has said, have a look through training courses and see how many jobs are available in your area and the qualifications required.

  3. I’d advise she keeps checking nhs jobs website for policy, strategy, project, etc roles that are related to her clinical field. If she starts eg as a project coordinator on a children’s health programme at same band she’s in now, she will get training and be a project manager (band 7) within a couple of years if she’s any good. From there it’s working hard and doing relevant courses to progress. The jobs may not be fully remote, but more often hybrid. Good luck!

  4. Civil Service – roles in DHSC or something similar, like Care Quality Comission.

  5. She can do a CIPD qualification and get a cushy HR job. That’s what I did and I don’t regret it for a second.
