What subtle signs did an otherwise great partner have that showed they were selfish/liked things on their terms? How did you deal with it? Did they change?

Because they look filthy
How yellow? If it’s really bad like, I’d be concerned about good mouth hygiene
and by extension good all over body hygiene
and by extension general ability to take care of oneself
I’m British. I don’t expect *white* white teeth like the US but I do expect a level of cleanliness. Good oral hygiene is important. Tooth health is more important to me than tooth whiteness.
If it is bright yellow, it’s an instant no. That shows poor hygiene.
The reason most people see it negatively is because that can be caused by bad higene and a lot of people assume that this is what happened.
I’d say it’s only a deal breaker if they’re yellow due to bad higene, can’t do bad breath. But if you just genetically happen to have yellower teeth than most I don’t mind
Bad hygiene is just too much to overlook.
