I hate drinking my beer with water after because I’m so bloated. I used to drink Whiskey, and it’s a lot easier to drink water with it as a “water back”.
Which is LESS Dehydrating do you think? I know Beer has a lot of water in it, or maybe that water doesn’t count? My main goal here is to enjoy some drinks WITHOUT getting dehydrated.
A year ago I went to the ER with slight heart palpitations & I felt like crap. The day before I had like 20 beers with friends watching Football. Had multiple ECG’s, Xrays, Blood taken & a $7200 hospital bill later it turned out I was severely dehydrated, they gave me IV drip bag in the hospital & I was good.
Would Whiskey & Water be better if I DO drink a fair amount?

OR….you could not drink 20 beers in one sitting
Whichever has an overall lower abv will probably end up being less dehydrating
I don’t want to be that guy but maybe you shouldn’t drink 20 beers in one sitting.
But on the other hand Whiskey and Water because you’re actually drinking water.
I believe the average beer is less alcohol than the average whiskey, so it’s likely that beer is less dehydrating.
Your issue with the beer was the amount that you drank. Moderation would assist you in not getting dehydrated.
Maybe cut back on the drinking and replace it with water
Vodka and gatorade.
Beer is the more dehydrating of the two in this context. Water _in_ the beer does not prevent the diuretic effects of the alcohol, so a 12 Oz 5% abv beer is going to be just as dehydrating as a 2oz pour of 40% abv liquor, more or less. _And_ since you don’t want to drink water because of feeling bloated after, you won’t compensate like you would with the liquor.
So if you drink 20 of those beers without drinking any water, your body is going to act like you did 20 shots without water. Because as far as alcohol content goes, you basically did – just slower.
Rule of thumb; You drink a full 12-16 Oz glass of water after every two drinks if you want to avoid getting dehydrated. Whatever they are – beer whiskey, whatever, doesn’t matter. It also helps to slow you down so your eyes don’t write a check your liver can’t cash.
I recommend at least 3 liters of water per day and no alcohol.
