What are some phrases or expressions that make you cringe because people commonly say them incorrectly?

  1. begging the question. It doesn’t mean to bring forth a question, it’s illogical circular reasoning.

  2. “Nip it in the butt.” Ugh. You nip a flower (or an idea) in the *bud* (before it has a chance to grow). No one should be nipping anyone’s butt (at least, not in public).

Also, “anywho”. Just stop that. You’re not cute.

  3. “You never seize to amaze me” it’s cringey and also funny if you take it literal. But I never see anyone get it correct. It’s cease not seize

  4. espresso……it’s not fucking expresso. it’s awful when they really emphasize the ex sound too

  5. “Chomping at the bit”… it’s CHAMPING, horses champ at their bits. This one really gets me bc sources (Websters!) are starting to recognize “chomping” as correct bc it’s so commonly used. Collective stupidity is affecting whether we define something correctly or not!!

  6. “that’s a loaded question” when someone asks a serious or complicated question
