Just been noticing that in TV/movie scenes where school students are opening their lockers & chatting, they only ever have upper lockers- nobody uses the lower ones.

Or does each student have a top & bottom locker together?

  1. In schools that have those, students occupy both. Not all schools have them. My school had taller, skinnier lockers.

  2. We don’t use lockers in CA, but it might just be because our schools are overcrowded lol

  3. > been noticing that in TV/movie scenes

I can’t think of a lot of scenes that wouldn’t be made unnecessarily complicated by one of the characters using a bottom locker.

But yeah, some years you catch bad luck and end up with a bottom locker. You just suck it up and hope for better luck next year. Thankfully for the young folks most new schools have better locker designs and avoid that issue entirely.

  4. I never used lockers at all, just carried my books and binders everywhere. But of course people use lower lockers in real life. I’d have to imagine there’s something with how it looks on camera – or maybe it’s not easy for actors to do a million takes while bent over in front of a locker. So just have them take the upper one.

  5. My high school didn’t have upper and lower lockers, all the lockers were just tall and skinny. We also really have time to go to them in between class. I’d go before school and get my morning things then make a second trip at lunch for my afternoon books.

  6. My school had taller lockers, rather than stacked ones if I remember properly. I can’t imagine having to share a spot with someone especially with only a limited amount of time between classes.

  7. Yes, we used lower lockers in high school. I presume the people who make TV shows and movies prefer using middle/top lockers so they have better shots of the actors and not need to have them or the cameramen crouch awkwardly.

  8. Yes; we have top and bottom. Bottom is the worst though. Not only do you have to squat down but you run the risk of rising too fast or too close and having a bad time. Case in point—one year I had a bottom locker and my top neighbor decided to open his as I was standing up and I spent the next class with a bloody nose.

  9. Yeah we had upper and bottom lockers. The lower lockers were annoying and awkward. They mostly use the top row on tv shows probably for that reason.

  10. Upper and lower lockers in Jr. High. Standard tall lockers in high school all assigned. Depending where your classes were depended on if you had time to go to your locker. I don’t remember using my lockers much in Jr. High. High school my senior year I used my locker a lot because my classes were all in the same general area. Also, no one really used backpacks either.

  11. I almost always managed to get a bottom locker. Except for gym class. I remember having a top locker and it wasn’t a standard locker size. It was a small locker that was more or less just a shoe locker. I had to climb on a bench to even get into it.

  12. In middle school we were assigned lockers that we had to use. We couldn’t carry around our backpacks.

That included bottom lockers and they didn’t give two shits how tall or short you were. I got stuck with a bottom locker in 6th and 7th grade even though I was half a foot taller than half the people with top lockers.

In high school no one used lockers at all.

  13. In middle school, people used the lower lockers.

In high school, everyone had an upper locker. I think we were able to rent out the bottom lockers.

  14. Doesn’t look good to the cameras to show a character’s butt when bent over putting stuff in their lower locker.

  15. When I lived in AZ, we didn’t have lockers at my school. I just hauled shit around.

  16. In my school, lower class had the small lockers. The upper class had full lockers so no upper or lower.

    Lower lockers sucked.

  17. Trick question. High schoolers don’t actually use the lockers, they’re there for show.

  18. A movie is just a play captured on film with better special effects. Nothing about tv or movies is real, not even the news and interview shows. It’s all modified and cut to look and sound good, rather than to be accurate.

  19. As a freshman it was pretty degrading to have to kneel to use our lockers and sometimes the seniors would hog all the space.

  20. I had bottom locker literally every year of middle school and it sucked. But I did use them for my notebooks and extra supplies and stuff. At my high school we had the long lockers, so there wasn’t top and bottom, it was significantly better

  21. I had a bottom locker. Loved it because it was always a mess so I avoided things falling out of it most of the time. Lol!
