How do you bring up having sex in new relationships?

  1. In my experience, it comes up naturally if the two of you have good chemistry. Otherwise, it’s awkward and uncomfortable.

  2. I talk about it. I want to swap test results, make sure the other person isn’t the type to stalk, abuse, and get weird once sex happens. What are we looking for, what do we expect, etc. To me, sex in a relationship is the next level so a checkin conversation is needed. Sometimes that starts with “at what point do we discuss sex, commitment, exclusively, meeting family?”

It is difficult to discuss needs and expectations but I do not want a relationship that I spend the whole time confused and guessing and I do not anticipate finding a mind reader either.

  3. It happens naturally. When the desire is there for both people, there is no need to communicate vocally.
