Guys, what do you do to stay connected to nature/REAL WORLD amidst busier schedules, sprawl, and screens galore?

  1. if you don’t live next to or in a nature-centric area… it’s tough

vacations every once in a while help. but it really should be a daily or weekly minimum thing to be in nature

  2. Spent 3 hours walking the beach in a state park today. Before I moved here, I’d hit up hiking trails in state parks on the weekend.

    State parks are great tbh.

  3. go hiking. though I don’t go that often honestly. I probably would more if I had friends who wanted to. Going on my own seems like it could be unsafe in some areas

  4. Live on a farm, interacting with nature is unavoidable, the good (clean air, clear skies and singing birds), the bad (throwing hay bales in 100deg scorching heat and going to feed cattle in -40 blizzard) and the ugly (shoveling shit and burying dead animals, a cow that is gutted and partly eaten by wolves but didn’t have the good fortune to die yet is rough situation to deal with).

  5. Ironically, only through screens. My life is work, gym and bed, and leftover money isn’t enough to get me out of town. I watch a lot of camping and travel videos to see what I can’t do.

  6. I work a tech centric job. When I’m done I run away from screens – I cook dinner, work on my vehicles, clean, garden, do home improvement, wrestle with my kids, walk the dog, play an instrument or talk with my wife.

For that matter, I take paper notes during my day – especially with to-do lists.

Tech is a great servant but a terrible master.

  7. Try to take 60 mins a day to be outside doing something/anything…. Even if just reading outside

  8. Garden, ski, bike, just go for long walks listening to podcasts. I go on walking meetings, and meet friends for walks

  9. I ride my dirt bike, or I’ll go on a hike, or sometimes I’ll just l go outside at night and look at the sky. I work 50 hours a week and am a full time student so I don’t get much time for those things, but I just stubbornly refuse to let myself waste the little time I do have

  10. Trail running twice a week. I’m fortunate enough to live in a city with a massive single track network so that helps. Also hiking, biking, camping, snowshoeing…etc whenever the opportunity arises.
