Biggest win, a tenner, think I just put it towards my dinner
I put a tenner on Aurora’s Encore in 2013 and won about £700 or something. First time I’d ever gambled as it was the weekend of my 18th birthday. Needless to say I had a good night out.
I used to run a sweepstake for an office I worked at. Names in a bag, random etc. Think it was £2 entry with 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes. I paid for 2 tickets myself the first year, had everyone watch as someone else held the bag and I randomly picked mine. I won 1st and 2nd place prizes.
Did it again the next year and won 1st place again.
Nobody wanted to play the next year.
About £30 – it was the work sweepstake. I bought a slow cooker with the proceeds.
I do it every year and I’ve never won a single penny from the Grand National. I’ve usually been more lucky with Cheltenham Festival where I’ve won £200 – £300 sometimes
Had a tenner on many clouds in 2015, took the odds at 33/1
I won’t about £800 I think it was from a free bet. I don’t really gamble and know nothing about horses. I just picked all of the favourites in an each way accumulator. I got myself a fantastic Scandinavian coat that I’ve still got 10 years later. Can’t remember what I did with the rest.
Non gamblers; grand national is brilliant!
Gamblers; grand national is more like the lottery than a “proper” horse race
In 1995 I was 9 and on holiday with my parents in Devon. It was the Grand National and they decided to have a £2 bet each and put one on for me. None of us knew anything about horse racing so I asked for my £2 to be put on Number 5, as that was my lucky number. Number 5, Royal Athlete, won and I pocketed £52. A tidy sum for a 9-year-old in the mid-90s.
