Hi, youngest in my management group and fairly new.
There are times when manage my huddles up and talks about random things and idk how to interact I am not shy I’m just quiet and I think being quiet appears as not like anyone or being weak.
What are tip or things I can do, to come off more confident?

  1. If you’re the youngest and new spend more time listening and showing everyone that you’re listening. Just start by asking good questions pertaining to whatever the other people are talking about, asking individual people follow up questions, and making eye contact with whoever is speaking. Trying to appear confident when you aren’t yet looks more weak than listening and learning. The Socratic method helps me a lot in situations like that but you really have to make sure you don’t come off sounding like a dickhead

  2. Do your job. And befriend your boss. But don’t outshine your boss… let him know his dick is always gonna be bigger than yours. Push him up the ladder and watch yourself be carried along.

    And do your fucking job

  3. Pretend you’re a con man with no qualifications whatsoever. Every time you interact and get it right you’re getting away with something. It helps me. Ideal a lot with imposter syndrome even though honestly I have a pretty decent idea of what I’m doing compared to most techs in my field… But when I start feeling dumb or overwhelmed instead of shutting down, I Google questions, and try to think of what a con man would do in my situation. Normally it ends up being the correct answer anyway.

  4. The best way to appear more confident is to work on your mental health, achieve things, and gain real authentic confidence. There is no cheat code. You have to do the work.
