Does the UK not have the same sales as the US for items online? I believe my Instagram ads still think I’m stateside and I see a great item on sale. I go to do the same on the UK website and it’s nearly doubled in price. How come? Are they just making a buck? I’d like to not have to pay VAT but if it saves me money I may reconsider.

  1. Are you talking about the same product advertised in both the U.S./U.K.? If yes, it’s not just the V.A.T. But also import duties and shipping costs.
There are lots of motorcycle parts I like in the U.S. but the import costs are astronomical! A $50 Manual would cost me almost £200.00 with all costs added on.

  2. ?

obviously instagram ads are garbage, UK retail and sales prides are higher than the US due to 1) higher wages 2) higher sales tax (vat) 3) prices actually including vat 4) smaller market (my theory: also with less fraud).

  3. You have to pay VAT in the UK same you pay various sales taxes in the US. It’s just shown and set up front and nothing is added on after. VAT is shown up front so there’s no confusion in price, what you see is what you pay. Nothing added afterwords.

Sales in the UK are that, sales in the UK. Sales in the US are only in the US. The companies decide on their own what sales will apply where and when. Multi national companies will have different groups deciding what sales are when. For example, why would the UK have thanksgiving sales?

The US side might decide to have a sale on but the UK side might not and wait 2 months before *they* have a sale where the US side does not.

  4. Shipping from the US is very expensive, always has been. There are plenty of online retailers in UK but anything American will be super expensive

  5. No, sales in the UK are independant fron those in other countries. We have black friday and cybermonday sales here now, we have “christmas” sales which do correlate but other than that they are independant and any correlation is usually coincidental and dependant on product life cycles, UK seasons/holidays etc.

  6. We have online sales, but the same item probably isn’t going to be on special offer in the US and UK at the same time.

Did you seriously think that everyone in the UK pays full price every time, with no sales offers ever?
