I’ve always been a writer, I don’t write much now but I read others’ stories and I know how much it means to get positive comments on your work. The trouble is, my mind goes blank as soon as I go to comment, because I feel like I comment the same “this was creepy, I liked it!” on a dozen stories a week. I feel like my praise falls flat and bland and doesn’t really do the story justice. What are some phrases and skeleton structures of positive feedback that I can build on?

  1. I think the concept “the five whys” can be used for so many things in life so… ask yourself why to get into the meat of things.

This story was creepy. Why? Because the decisions that were made added to the tension. Why? Because they came off as realistic. Why?

And so on. Asking why allows you to move past the immediate reaction to define why you think the way you do. Which in turn allows you to give more specific feedback.
