Doesn’t the ranch take away the spicy flavor of the wings?

  1. The idea is that the cool creamy nature of the ranch dressing balances out the spicy heat of the buffalo wings. That being said, there’s some people who are just using the wings as a way to shovel ranch dressing into her mouth.

  2. Nah. With hot wings ranch is a perfect way to have cool with the hot. I put ranch on all sorts of stuff. Most food is simply a vehicle for ranch consumption.

House ranch and bbq wings, ice cold beer. Fuck me sideways and send me home. That shit is so good.

  3. I don’t. I dip wings in blue cheese if we’re talking buffalo wings. Other sauced wings I might not dip at all.

  4. As someone from the Midwest wings are just one of many ranch delivery systems.

  5. Do you not enjoy combining contrasting flavors? It’s a natural pairing anyway, since it’s an acid bomb (hot sauce) and zesty fat (ranch).

  6. Loving ranch dressing is a matter of identity for some people, like following a football team.

  7. I wouldn’t dip anything in ranch. Bleu cheese only. It complements the spiciness of the Buffalo sauce well.

  8. Capsaicin is lipid-soluble, so dipping your wings in a lipid-rich solvent dilutes the perceived heat and make the wings more enjoyable if like me you don’t enjoy being in pain

    Also bleu cheese >>> ranch

  9. I hate salad dressing with a passion so I definitely don’t dip my wings in it.

  10. Fresh Blue-cheese > ranch.

But, it’s situational, ranch is better with traditional Buffalo flavors and fried/grilled wings. Smoked wings, Blue-cheese matches the flavor better imo.

  11. More bleu cheese dressing. It’s a great counter to the heat.

And wings come in more than hot flavors.

That’s kind of the point. The ranch balances out the spiciness of the wing, making for a delicious bite.

  13. Because the combination tastes good. Even without wings I love a good ranch mixed with Buffalo sauce such a tasty combo. Spicy ranch for the win.

  14. It’s mostly blue cheese down here.

And yeah, it’s a mechanism to adjust the heat to taste by dipping heavily, not at all or anywhere in between. Many also jusy enjoy the spicy/creamy pairing and will get wings significantly hotter than they would be able to tolerate without the dip so that it ends at their preferred level.

  15. You can just up the heat on the Buffalo sauce to make up for it. The classic is 60/40 Frank’s Original RedHot cayenne pepper sauce and butter. (Also, although ranch is common as well, it’s usually blue cheese dressing.)

  16. It balances out the spicy flavor. I like Ranch, but I prefer bleu cheese dressing myself.

  17. I normally get honey BBQ wings, the saltiness of Ranch balances kind of nicely with the sweet savoriness of honey BBQ. It should be noted I only dip a little bit, I don’t like overpowering the honey BBQ

  18. Buffalo wings with ranch is just bizarre to me. Bleu cheese is where it’s at.

That said, ranch can make a great sandwich condiment.

  19. I say this as someone who doesn’t really like Ranch dressing all that much.

We do it because that shit is tasty as fuck.
