I’m pretty young and I love Seinfeld, but it feels like starting from 2010s-onwards not many people still watch it, or even know it. Would you say that it’s still a cultural hit? Hey, at least I can quote it and act clever as though I made it up myself lol (just kidding, that’s too shallow…)

  1. I think it’s more TV viewing habits have changed. I have been streaming for 5 years now . And I also pay not to watch commercials . So I also don’t like TV sitcoms. So I never see the show . That’s pretty much most TV watchers in 2022. The reruns also aired usually at 6 or 7pm or 10 to 11pm. That TV schedule is now filled with 2000s TV shows. 90s TV show are going away.

But that being said Seinfeld reruns along with friends is actually is still very popular internationally.

  2. I watch it all the time, big Seinfeld fan. I’m 35 though lol, I’d say it’s hit or miss for younger people. Great show though.

  3. It’s a classic. Yeah, it’s hard to understand how groundbreaking it is (Yes, I’m familiar with TV Tropes), but it still holds up outside of its impact on popular culture. It’s just so well written.

  4. I didn’t watch it much when it was on, but I’m watching it on Netflix now, and it’s mostly very funny. I think it’s still well known, but obviously not the cultural touchstone it was in the ‘90s.

  5. Absolutely. I reference it all the time and still get laughs. I’d say it’s still a cultural hit.

I send/receive multiple “Happy Festivus!” texts every December 23rd!

  6. Easily a top 3 show in my book. It’s my comfort show, when I first started doing international travel, and felt uneasy, or homesick on long trips, I’d watch it to keep my cool.

  7. Never thought it was funny, didn’t watch it & am just left staring dead-eyed if someone makes a reference to it now.

  8. I don’t watch it any more … but that’s because I can probably recite all the episodes from memory. I absolutely loved the show when I was younger, and don’t feel any need to watch them again.

I’m probably sounding a little bit like George here …

  9. There’s a trope thats named for it called, Seinfeld is Unfunny. The idea is something comes around thats so innovative and groundbreaking that everybody starts copying them to the point that new thing seems less special. Some people seem to miss why Seinfeld is so beloved. It did a lot of stuff sitcoms weren’t doing at the time. Soon every sitcom was copying it. That said by 2010 the sitcom genre had changed so much with shows like The Office and Modern Family popularizing the docu-comedy style, Seinfeld is now seen as dated and aged.

That said its still pretty popular, gets plenty of reruns, and paved the way for shows like Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Arrested Development
