My bf and I have been dating for a year and 2 months. My bf is obsessed with this sports betting app. Even when we hang out he would be on his phone too much on the app. It became a problem. So to fix it he said he would delete it. Today I was on his phone to call someone and his phone opened up to the sports betting app. He lied and said it was for his friend and then I brought up how he said he wasn’t going to be on the app anymore and he said it’s something he enjoys doing. My thing is don’t say something and don’t even stick to it. He said he felt like he had to say he won’t be on it anymore in the moment. He is a liar and I broke up with him over it. I don’t know if that was a valid reason or not. Because if they lie to you once surely it would happen again. Am i being irrational?

Any reason is a valid reason if you don’t want to be with the person anymore, especially lying. If he’s lying about something that small, he can and will lie about other things too. It’s good to leave someone who breaks your trust.

You are being entirely rational. Not only is he a liar, but very likely he’s an addict (gambling addiction). Congrats, you made the right call!
If he lied about a small thing like using an app it means he’s willing to lie about more important things. Dont waste your time with liars.
