Hi I’m looking at shipping a car cross country and don’t really feel like dealing with the headache of a broker vs carrier or shipping company. Are there no like.. reputable chains or national or companies based in every major city in North America ? Sorta like we have Enterprise everywhere or like the same Honda/Toyota dealerships everywhere? Or is it all small independent shippers? Sorry I’ve jst never done this before. I don’t mind paying $$$$, I just wanna be able to do something fast & convenient and pick up my car after 2-4 days so I can fly home rather than drive.

Thank you

  1. There are a few larger operators, but many are smaller outfits that bid on jobs on marketplaces and have a small number of trucks.

Reliable might be one of the larger/more well known ones if you don’t mind paying $$$$. [https://reliablecarriers.com/](https://reliablecarriers.com/)

The reality is to make money, they have to jump all around to always have their trucks as full as possible. Expect it to take a week or more to get your car across country. The truck will wind it’s way all over picking up other cars and dropping off along the way. [Doug Demuro did a good video recently](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bAA_XTFtKBo).

  2. Something like Pilot Transport is what you are looking for. Reputable company with nationwide contacts.

It won’t be cheap and your 2-4 days time is very optimistic unless you’re willing to pay big money.

  3. My neighbors own several small homes and ship their cars from place to place. I always love watching delivery days. It’s fun to watch a car be delivered like a pizza! I think the 2-4 day timeline could be an issue. If that short timeline is your priority then another solid option could be hiring someone to drive the vehicle over for you. That’s something my grandpa and his BIL did when they first retired. They’d fly to places like Denver or Sedona and bring someone’s car back to them. That kind of gig is also found via a broker.

  4. I used hyperdel auto shipping to get a car from Texas to the coast.

Pretty flawless experience, vehicle had zero damages

  5. I’ve shipped cars.

Count on at least $1 per mile (probably more like 1.50 these days). That is a closed carrier, which I HIGHLY recommend if you want your paint to survive.

Just search for coast-to-coast car shipping

  6. I suspect the vast majority of Americans have never shipped a car. It’s not a very common thing. Whereas many have needed to rent a car or moving truck before, I can’t think of anyone I know who has ever needed to ship a car.

  7. Reliable Carriers is probably the most well known one.

I’d check out some classic/collector car forums to see who they recommend. Those cars get shipped around pretty often.

  8. uship.com allows you to enter your car’s info and desired type of service and shipping companies (as well as individuals) can bid on it.

I know there are services out there that do this regularly for wealthier people who like to ship their exotic cars to and from their multiple homes. I just don’t recall the names of said companies. I suggest maybe contacting a few local luxury car dealerships who they use when a client buys a car and has it shipped out of that state. The one I worked at a few years ago had a couple preferred carriers. We also had clients who preferred to use their own and would make the arrangements.

  9. Everyone who I have known to ship a car has simply used one of the nationwide moving companies and had the car shipped with their stuff or had it shipped on a truck with other peoples stuff. My friend who shipped her car from Boston to San Francisco said it took a little over a week and cost her $3000.
