I was out with my GF clothes shopping the other day and I was telling her how I wished it was socially acceptable to wear a utility belt (I wore one for a cosplay and found it both extremely useful and surprisingly flattering). Out of nowhere a random dude came up and just went “yeah, utility belts! Like Batman!” He seemed really stoked on the idea. Anyone else?

I’d carry my Leatherman tool, a power bank, hand sanitizer, snacks, a first aid kit, a variety of pens and notepads, a flashlight, and a can of good pepper spray just in case.

  1. Yeah I’d do the same. I don’t think it isn’t socially unacceptable, it’s just that nobody does it. If I’m out and about for a long time it sounds like a good idea.

  2. Probably not. I just don’t need much for my day-to-day, and when I do, I just carry a bag or pack.

  3. No, that sounds like extra weight and crap to carry around for a lot of shit I wouldn’t need most of the time, if ever. BTW most phones have a flashlight function and can be used as a notepad. Instead of getting a power bank just get a phone with a bigger battery.

If you really wanted to do that get a vest or a backpack.

  4. Wear your belt with pride – if men can wear dresses (and I’m talking men, not transwomen) – you can wear your belt!!!

  5. No.

But I’d just like to mention that my dad already does wear a utility belt out in public with a few screwdrivers, a pocket for his phone and wallet, and a few other little tools.

  6. The times I wish I had one were also the situations where it’s socially acceptable.

I don’t need a bunch of random junk on my belt to go to the grocery store

  7. I don’t think it is not socially acceptable, just people will have a maybe skewed perception of you.

But what do you really want to put in an utility belt? Phone, Key, Wallet or Cards + Cash + a powerbank or a tool fit in your pants your already.

A First Aid Kit should always be in somewhat of a reach do to every car needing to have one to even be allowed on the street. Where would you even need pepper spray? I regularly have boars in front of my home and even there I did never need one. This and everyone else together makes you seem a bit odd. I doubt you will ever need it, but you do you.

  8. No, my backpack is much more comfortable to wear than a utility belt. I can also put a lot more stuff into it.

  9. Long since my childhood have I wanted society to accept a Batman-style utility belt as normal everyday article of clothing. Men don’t carry purses. A satchel is more for an everyday Indiana Jones man. A fanny pack is for geriatrics. Backpacks are for students…and the homeless. So where does that leave me?

I’d like to be able to carry around my lucky coin, shark-repellent bat spray, 3.5″ folding knife with serrated edge, three standard issue smoke bombs, military grade OC batspray, keys to Wayne Manor, the Batmobile, Wayne Enterprises Applied Sciences Division, and the Aventador. Probably throw in night vision scope, grapple with climbing grade rope, a flashlight, couple packs of Gushers, and a baton to fend off bullies making fun of my cool utility belt.

  10. I don’t even want to carry my wallet with me, let alone all kinds of things attached to my body.

  11. I have a fanny pack when I run, for like keys, cards, phone, gum, or little whatevers I might need.

    That counts, right?

  12. I very often go to the shop with my work clothes on with all my tools since I am not bothered to change before home and often you see others do it as well.

Most of that stuff can sit in the car and car is usually a walking distance away. Medkit, tools, water and power all wait in the car if I need them.

  13. You sound like one of those Toyota Tacoma bros with 100 Molle racks filled with every nick nack in army green bags.

But hey, at least if you run into an injured Chupacabra armed with nunchucks you’ll be able to render vodoo first aid because you were definitely “almost in the army” and you’re prepared.

  14. A fanny pack. What you’re looking for is a fanny pack.

I used to wear one when I went skating. I would keep water in it to stay hydrated, my phone and keys so I didnt land on either, hairties in case mine snapped, and weed for weed related reasons. You get weird looks but, it is pretty convenient.

Also, I stabbed myself with my keys once when I just used my pockets so I’ll take weird looks over that.

  15. I think you should wear a Utility belt if you want to. I don’t understand why so many comments shut this idea down. People have green hair, wear spike collars, mince around in high heels – all sorts of impractical things – for the sake of expression. At least your choice can carry things!

Oh shoot. Just realized this was r/AskMen. The above is not a man’s opinion, sorry

  16. I think for them to be any good they’d have to only contain small, light objects and they’d have to be like built into the clothing.

The technology’s just not there yet

  17. What do you mean “if it were?” It is acceptable.

I don’t wear one because I have pockets and I only wear my keys-knife-wallet-phone on me regularly and I don’t really need anything else ever.

  18. Oh yeah… I’d carry a gun of course , a knife or two , various ninja weapons I have no idea how to use, a decent portable drill, leather man type tool, a set of micro and regular sized screw drivers ( might need to fix someone’s glasses or watch) a tape measure, a small level and of course a hammer and a water purifier , like a lifesrraw.
    Yeah I’d do it.

  19. 1. Facewash
    2. Moisturizer
    3. Lip bumm
    4. Cologne
    5. Hand sanitizer
    6. Tissue
    7. Phone
    8. Water bottle

  20. Not for me, but I do know Bulgarian men love their shoulder bags so you are not the only one.

  21. Who gives a shit if its socially acceptable if you found that much use with one maybe its worth looking like a weirdob

  22. When I saw the quote out with my girlfriend shopping” I thought you were going to be talking about women’s clothes not having pockets, and that women should wear utility belts. Of course, women used to wear belts upon which they hung all the things they needed

  23. I used to have a (clay pigeon) shooting jacket and army webbing in the past and I can’t tell how amazingly practical they were!

Ok you’d look like a nutter/school shooter if you wore them in public these days but man they were practical

I miss my webbing the most.

  24. I rarely leave the home without my messenger bag as a carry-all. Has the usual EDC stuff, multi-tool, flashlight, sanitizer, pens, usually a book, and a bottle of water. These are things I consider normal to have, or at least that I like to have nearby. A utility belt would vibe against my outfit, the bag does not. But carry what you want, hombre; do you as best as you can.

  25. I used to carry a sling pack that had pretty much all of this. I stopped carrying it as I don’t really go out as much as I used to.

  26. I carry a flashlight and a Leatherman on my belt. I used to include a watch as well. So it’s kind of a utility belt but it’s more of utility pouches

  27. I have a small multi-tool on my keychain that I use all the time. I can’t imagine needing much else. But I also take a backpack to work and places. I keep stuff in there like aspirin, pens, an umbrella, flashlight, etc
