I don’t mean “Dramedys”, I mean British drama TV shows that are funny.
My girlfriend is a huge fan of British TV, but she suffers with her nerves, so she can only watch shows that are not upsetting.

She loves: New Tricks, The Outlaws (2021), Agatha Raisin, Shakespeare & Hathaway, Death in Paradise, Slow Horses, Hotel Babylon, Downton Abbey, The Durrels, Jeeves & Wooster, Honest, Whitstable Pearl, Grantchester, Rosemary & Thyme, Why Didn’t They Ask Evans, The Last Detective…

She hated: Queens of Mystery, Vexed, Father Brown, Randall and Hopkirk Deceased, Madame Blanc Mysteries, Blue Murder

White Gold
The Detectorists, chilled out, funny and at times very touching.
Budgie from the early 70’s is terrific, but be prepared for some outdated attitudes
Lovely sitcom called the cockfields. There’s only two series of the show but the bbc just bought it, so it is viewable on iplayer.
It’s a gentle, well observed show with a stellar cast. Well worth a look.
Fawlty Towers
Am I being unreasonable – was a great series drama comedy on iPlayer with Daisy Cooper from This country.
Everyone Else Burns.
I don’t know if I’d class it as a ‘drama’, but “Mum” is very British and extremely funny, also quite warm and touching. Really excellent television, it was BBC so should be in iPlayer.
Inbetweeners
BBC did a brilliant adaptation of Evelyn Waugh’s “Decline And Fall” a few years back.
It had a gloriously grotesque performance by the actor playing the “Grimes” character – a corrupt and alcoholic schoolmaster – and even managed to get a decent performance out of Jack Whitehall (gasp!).
Really worth a look – funnier than most sitcoms and with a literary pedigree too.
Black adder but probably skip the first session. Jeeves and wooster, black books, spaced.
Last Tango in Halifax. Excellent acting and writing, with very natural, witty dialogue.
So apparently, according to the replies, we don’t know what a comedy drama is.
All creatures great and small 🙂
The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin.

Line of Duty BBC
Gavin And Stacey isn’t completely free of upsetting content but it’s mostly positive and it’s a pretty iconic British comedy.
Minder brilliantly written, always a fantastic ‘guest cast’, and plenty of comic edge from Arfur.
Upstairs downstairs
If she likes hotel Babylon then I think she’ll love Hustle. They have the same energy. Totally forgot about that show, I used to love it as a kid. Had the biggest crush on the receptionist, was she called Anna?
Still game best comedy the uk has made in decades and most people haven’t even heard of it outside of Scotland which is sad
Dinner Ladies. Absolutely wonderful.
All Creatures Great and Small with Christopher Timothy
Our version of Ghosts is brilliant. The funniest thing I have watched in years.
Dinner ladies
Catastrophe. Best British TV in the last decade
Phone shop
Friday night dinner is one of my favs
Midsomer Murders. If she likes Death in Paradise she should like this. Speaking of D.I.P. there’s a very recent spin off show called Beyond Paradise.
Also, Jonathan Creek.
Stath let’s flats 🤣🤣, what we do in the shadows is super funny and Wellington paranormal it’s not British but hilarious
Too nervous to watch normal TV? Okay 🙄 maybe try children’s programmes then. Mind you, that could be triggering. How about tv aimed at ages 3-6? Fucking Christ 🙄
“All quiet on the Preston front”, renamed as just “Preston front” from series 2. If you can find it was both funny and touching. I can’t find it anywhere in the UK but you might get it elsewhere.
