I like to think I have a lot of hobbies which I can talk about to people.

I understand that one effective way to connect with people is to figure out if we share any common interests, and to go from there, since it’s something we can both talk passionately about.

But I’ve realised that even if we share a common hobby – like playing an instrument, I still find it really difficult to make conversation on even that. My ability to hold that kind of conversation is no better than that of typical small talk.

It’s feels humiliating how I can mess up something like this, which should be as fun as any conversation gets. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
