Sounds simply like you’re both over-thinking it.
Both sound like unselfish partners which is of course a good thing, but my simple advice is to try to just go with it, both of you.
Communication is huge of course, so don’t stop doing that, but if you don’t finish and it doesn’t bother you from time to time or vice versa, the other shouldn’t get frustrated at themselves.
