An age-old problem I’ve had. I’m going back to uni for a few lectures and I can never figure out where to sit. I know nobody on the course and every time I sit anywhere no one sits next to me because they don’t know me :/ I got on with one guy but he always sits with his buddy and any time I sit with him, his buddy sits alone somewhere else instead of sitting with us so I just stopped sitting with him. Not really sure what the etiquette is here and I don’t want to sit with someone I don’t know and make things awkward for them.

I’ve learnt sitting further back means more strangers are likely to sit next to me but I’m otherwise clueless.

  1. Sit in the front so it’s easier to see and listen. That’s what you’re paying for.

  2. If you want to learn, sit in front. If you want to find friends and chitchat then sit on the back. If you participate in class a lot then sit where the professor faces you.

  3. If you’re going to lecture to learn, sit in the front or second row.

If you’re going to lecture to have fun and make friends, go into the classroom at the very last minute and sit next/close to the person you wanna befriend.
