At auction, don’t pay retail.
I went to purely diamonds for mine they have website too.
We bought ours in Hatton Garden. Go to the first one and find your ‘perfect’ ring. Then get them to give a quote. Then go to the other shops to give you another quote.
Every shop can give you your perfect ring, but just compete on price. This is literally their day to day business and are used to it.
High street shops sell at much higher margins with lower quality diamonds.

GET A LAB GROWN DIAMOND
Have a look at Jeremy Hoye . Beautiful, unique and bespoke jewellery designer .

I used 77 diamonds, extremely happy with the service, cost and quality. Highly recommend.
For a solitaire, find the cut you want, then go online for the diamond you want. Then go to a jeweller and get it put in a ring.
I bought my wife a 0.92ct emerald cut, cost me about $5k (it’s a VVSI, C).
It’s just it a plain platinum band but we’ll probably have it reset soon.
Buy an antique ring, much better made, will increase in value and more unique.
