From my understanding of emergency contraceptive, it will only work by delaying ovulation. I’m currently at my peak (based on ovulation tracking through Premom) so is it worth going to get emergency contraceptive?

I’ve taken it twice in my life and both times I became very sick from the side effects so I’d rather not take it if it’s not going to work. Additionally I won’t be able to take it until tomorrow AM as my pharmacy (prescribed via telehealth) is not open.

  1. Plan B is the only one I’m familiar with. It should work – it induces a period and if an egg is there it gets shed along with uterine wall lining.

Edit: My buddy who I took to get it ages ago said it basically gave her a heavy period.

  2. Take it as quickly as you can. Just because the app says you are ovulating doesn’t mean the egg is released yet.

Being sick from the side effects beats the side effect of a baby you aren’t wanting.

In the future, combine him pulling out with condoms if you are anywhere near your fertile time.

  3. Take it.

Also, not sure where you are, but you can buy it over the counter at any pharmacy, drugstore, or even larger grocery without a prescription.

  4. One option is to have an IUD placed in the next few days. It will prevent any fertilized egg from attaching preventing a pregnancy. Plan B also greatly decreases in effectiveness if you are over the weight limit or if you get very ill from it.

  5. Always use the right size condom. It is not worth it to become pregnant when you are not prepared.
