I work in cybersecurity channel sales and I’m achieving my quota but the role is very junior and I find it easy to book meetings. If I want to advance, I really need to improve. I’ve been in this role for almost a year.

I don’t understand what I’m actually doing. I’m good at copying others and adjusting it to my liking. For example, I’ll make an existing email less wordy, and more appealing and digestible to book more meetings. Majority of my meetings stem from emails. I try to study, take courses and learn from others but my brain can’t even grasp the most simple things.

1. Small talk
2. Anxiety management – group/public speaking
3. Understanding topics, concepts, products, why something is valuable to a business, sales and information
4. How to explain what I understand ^
5. How to do a virtual and in-person presentation of what I understand
6. How to be a better listener and focus during conversations
7. Understanding a problem and problem solving.
8. Phone conversations and asking questions

– I’m an introvert
– I’m not good at small talk and holding social conversations longer than the first minute
– I struggle to understand and grasp information, products, services, concepts, topics and processes
– I’m horrible at public speaking and get extreme anxiety before even speaking to a small or large group, even if it’s my own team members during a team meeting
– I have poor listening and memory skills – I try really hard to focus during a conversation but my mind ends up drifting and I’ll only remember certain points of the conversation (I’m taking the steps to get tested for ADHD)
– I have trouble taking the time to sit down, focus and study a topic or something that I really want to learn and understand

I also don’t drink so I find it very tough to go out with my co workers for social events that includes drinking. I’m already bad at being social and small talk. I’ve drank before and it makes me way more social and comfortable. I let it go for religious reasons.
