How much work does long hair require?

  1. Everyone’s long hair is different. I can only speak for myself. For me, a hell of a lot of work and I think about going the shaved route regularly.

  2. Depends on the hair. When my hair was healthy and strong, it didn’t require any maintenance or any extra products to look amazing even though it reached all the way down my back. Now that it’s heavily bleached and damaged but much shorter, it takes a lot of time and costs a lot of money to keep it from breaking, and keep it from looking just as damaged as it is.

  3. Not much if you don’t color it, blow dry it, or style it. I let mine air dry and use a curl cream to get natural loose curls.

  4. In my case, so much time and effort! Up until a couple of months ago I had mermaid length hair (long enough to cover my breasts) and got it chopped to a collar length bob. It freed up over an hour a day of fussing and I got a ton of compliments with the new cut.

  5. Mine is long and curly. It requires zero maintenance unless I want it to look good when worn down. To do that I need to wash, condition, apply leave-in, wrap it up in a t-shirt for a while, then air dry. It’s not a bother, really, but drying takes hours. Even with a diffuser, blowing it dry turns it frizzy.

  6. Depends on the hair type. I don’t spend more than 5 minutes a day brushing my hair. I wash it twice a week, which takes like 5-10 minutes.

  7. Mine require almost zero effort. They are naturally very straight and shiny (but not thick). I just go get them pampered once or twice a month at a good hair saloon (mainly treatments and massage) and when we have plans to go out and socialize then I get a blowout but I only get it just because I can, not because I need one.
    10/10 recommend long hair.

  8. Everyone’s different.

FOr me, long hair requires a lot less work than short hair.

  9. If you have curly hair its a hassle, if you have thick hair it’s a struggle, if you have both then expect some in your booty crack at the end of your shower.

  10. Less than short hair (for me anyway). Wake up and put it in a ponytail, done. As opposed to short hair which can look awful if I sleep crazy on it and I can’t hide it in a ponytail.

  11. For me the thickness effects the amount of work more than the length

My hair is so thick I have to section it to do anything to it, ANYTHING. And it’s been the same amount of work as it’s gotten longer, the only difference is I have a fail proof method for most things that helps cut some time out. But that came from time and trial and error.

  12. I have waist-length, fine straight hair that I bleach and tone to silver (natural hair colour is ash blonde). It doesn’t require much work apart from when I get my roots touched up, it just takes some time to naturally dry since I avoid using heat on it so I wash my hair in the evening.

I always comb my hair before washing and use a wet brush when I’ve rinsed out the shampoo, then I gently squeeze/pat off the excess of water with a soft shirt and let it air dry while I cook dinner, read or play video games. Once it’s dry I brush it with a boar bristle brush.

  13. Mine is thin and stick straight so not much effort at all. I wash it daily (or it gets greasy) and brush it 1-2x a day. I do use a split end serum bc I blow dry it to give it some volume but that’s all I do. I have an aversion to people touching my hair so I rarely get mine cut & have worn it long since middle school.

  14. Depends on person, hair type, and what kind of styling/maintenance you’re willing to do! I have thick and wavy mid-back length hair. I don’t really do anything with it besides make sure it’s conditioned, so not much work for me. Condition in the shower then let it air dry with some extra leave-in conditioner after. Air dry and gently comb when dry. I have had short hair many times (pixie cut) and I’d say the maintenance level was about the same for me, swapping the extra condition for an occasional styling mousse.

  15. Just as a notice, my hair is not just long, but very thick, as well.

I can brush my hair pretty quickly now, but it used to take me about 10 – 15 minutes. As long as I’m just putting my hair up, I can do it in about 5 minutes or so, provided I brush my hair every day so it doesn’t get tangled. I can’t skip it even if I’m not going anywhere, or it will take twice as long to brush when I do brush it again.

Takes me about 5 – 10 minutes to wash my hair, and I have to do it every day. I skip a day here and there, but not that often, or it gets very greasy pretty quickly.

Doing anything fancy or fun with my hair takes *forever*. Straightening it is a pain because if my hair hits humidity, it starts curling instantly. Once you finish one side and start on the other, the side you just finished starts curling up.

  16. The only reason I don’t like having long hair is it hurts my shoulders to wash it. I like how it looks and how it feels and I can put it up if it’s too hot. I don’t like hairstyles that you have to have a maintenance for like getting it cut every six weeks or something. I’ve never dyed my hair or colored it since I was 13 and used Sun In to lighten. To be honest, my hair is the nicest it’s ever been at the age of 61. It’s thicker now, and grows faster than ever before. Plus I like the white, it has more body than my regular brown hair.

  17. Tbh my hair is so thick and heavy,I dreaded hair day since it took forever to dry. Rocking a short Bob now

  18. Not much.
I consult with my stylist for products. She cuts it to where it styles how I want without much effort.

  19. I hate having long hair. I can’t rock short hair, so I have to have long hair. I have a lottttt of hair so it weighs a lot. I usually have to keep it at a certain length for it to not weigh so much. Usually, I pick it up in a bun for work. It’s a lot more manageable when I blow dry it and straighten it. When I have it in it’s natural phase it’s harder to deal with and maintain.

  20. It’s definitely more of a hassle to wash and brush, but I can also just leave it in a ponytail for multiple days and forget about it.

  21. so. much. my biggest problem is just that my hair is heavy and straight but with texture/poof, so it weighs down and the top gets so flat and the bottom poofs out a bit which makes me look weird or greasy. layers help, but too many makes it hard to style/put up without a bunch of layers popping out and flying away.
