Wikipedia mentions this theory. Is there any truth to it? Where do British historians consider clotted cream to have come from?

  1. It’s quite hard to establish conclusive evidence about ancient history.

However, the theory seems very plausible as there’s also plenty of indications on the early contact between Phoenicia and Britain. Also the Levant were the Phoenicians were from happen to be pioneers in making dairy products and cheese and the Lebanese have traditionally made clotted cream as well.

There’s also some indications that some British coastal towns may have Semitic names suggesting they were named by Phoenicians.

The theory isn’t as wild when you consider that the oldest settlement in Western Europe, Cadiz in Spain was also established by the Phoenicians.

  2. there is a similar food called kaymak that is consumed on the balkans and around iran, its probably closer to that rather than clotted cream.
