I (28M) thought social anxiety would slowly go away when I was becoming older cause I’d learn how to not give a shit, I have a party tomorrow for my nephews and I’ll be there with my dad, my brother and my sister-in-law and her family, it’s 3 of us, and like 10 of them so I’ll most likely have to socialize with them.

I know we’re all adults now and there’s no bullying or no reason to be anxious, but I just do not know what to say, I’m the quiet awkward guy even at 28. How do you socialize with people you barely see but will keep seeing once or twice a year?

Thanks.

  1. I wish I knew that back then I would’ve worked on it sooner, 31 now and it’s worse if anything, drugs and alcohol sure probably don’t help but it’s the only time I can socialize, when I’m sober I do not want to interact with anything.

But to help you out, honestly you can just keep it basic like idk how much you know about them now but.. hey how you been? How do you like living in? What do you do for work? How do you like it? Kids any time soon? Or you can take the past route. You still listen to?? You still talk to?? Remember back when? Sports saves awkward silence. Again I don’t know the extent of the relationships but I feel like these are general questions you can ask people even if your not interested.
