Mental health has been a topic discussed more and more lately. I believe at this point in society, this is a really important discussion to have. How do you take care of your mental health?

  1. Sleep is number one.

    Diet and walking number two.

Constant goal creation and progression to accomplishing them

Doughnuts on Sundays; gotta have a something to look forward to that is just pure pleasure.

  2. Decent sleep

    Decent eating

    Seeing friends

    Doing hobbies

    Stretching and strength training

I can certainly share some widely accepted strategies that individuals use to maintain and improve their mental health:

    * Regular Exercise: Physical activity releases endorphins, the body’s feel-good hormones, which can boost mood and act as natural stress reducers.

    * Balanced Diet: Eating a balanced diet can provide the necessary nutrients for the brain to function properly and thus can influence mood and mental health.

    * Adequate Sleep: Poor sleep can contribute to a variety of mental health issues including depression, anxiety, and stress.

    * Mindfulness and Meditation: These practices can reduce stress, increase self-awareness, and provide a variety of other mental health benefits.

    * Social Connections: Building and maintaining strong relationships can provide emotional support and help individuals feel connected and understood.

    * Therapy and Counseling: Seeking help from mental health professionals can provide individuals with strategies to manage stress, cope with difficult situations, and improve overall mental health.

    * Self-Care Activities: This could include things like taking time for relaxation and leisure activities, practicing good hygiene, and taking care of one’s physical health.

    * Limiting Alcohol and Avoiding Drugs: These substances can exacerbate mental health issues and make it harder to cope with stress, anxiety, and depression.

    * Learning New Skills: This can boost self-confidence and provide a sense of accomplishment, which can positively impact mental health.

    * Spending Time in Nature: Studies have found that spending time outdoors, particularly in green spaces, can reduce stress and increase feelings of well-being.

Remember, it’s important for everyone to find what works best for them, as mental health is deeply personal and what works for one person may not work for another. It’s also important to reach out to a mental health professional if you’re struggling.

  4. Sleeping well. A shitty sleep just gets harder and harder to bounce back from as I get older.

Eating well. I still eat sweets/treats here and there, but staying mindful about it.

Regular exercise. Recently was able to start running again and it feels so good.

Having real conversations with someone you trust and love (spouse, friend).

Taking time for myself to do something creative (guitar, draw, journal) or work on projects around the house. Anything to keep the mind engaged.

And being disciplined about all of these.

  5. Take a day off every month or so, no chores no expectations, just time to decompress and relax.

Exercise, regularly and consistently. I find it helpful to do this throughout the day while working.

Get outside,l whenever I can, even if it’s just a short walk on my lunch.

Sleep, I saved for ages to afford a decent mattress. It made a massive difference.

  6. Meditate every day (Zen-style) for at least one 20 minute session, plus I do Wim Hof breathing and a cold shower every day. This trio has done wonders for my mental health.

  7. Remember to laugh and be silly. Hang out with fun friends, go to a comedy show, eat a bunch of weed, idk

Find a way to do literally anything outside, especially if it’s nice outside

Toss on your best pair of headphones and an album/playlist you like, don’t do anything else, just relax and listen

  8. It’s more the things I don’t do, such as:

    * dwell on problems I’m not currently able to do anything about
    * pay attention to the news
    * beat myself up for my flaws

I guess I have a pretty strong gratitutde practice. Not like I’m writing five things a day, but I’ve incorporated gratitude into my thoughts. Like, when I have a spare moment to think, rather than worrying about something, I will be thankful that I have a nice view, or a comfy chair, or no headache, or there’s a nice smell, or possibly all at once!

  10. Learned not to give a shit about a lot of things, including what people think of me.

Learned to let things go when you have no control over it.

Exercise, or at least go for a walk outside. Adequate sleep.
